Renovation of a municipal facility in Elkton, Maryland. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
Cell 2 is the first disposal cell in a planned 68 acre expansion of Central Landfill and will be developed following utilization of the existing active disposal cell 4/5 airspace. Cell 4/5 is currently projected to reach capacity at the end of June 2025. DPW has targeted completion of Cell 2 construction by end of June 2024 to provide 1 year reserve capacity. Cell 2 will be approximately 12.3 acres providing 1.6 million cubic yards of additional landfill capacity and approximately 10 years of additional landfill life. Future disposal cells will be constructed as landfill space is consumed. The landfill expansion will be performed in several construction phases over an estimated 60 year time frame in accorance with the Landfill Master Plan. The project is included in the Cecil County's FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 16, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
