Renovation of a municipal facility in Squamish, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
The District of Squamish is building a fibre optical cable (fibre) dark net to connect its buildings and infrastructure with a continuous fibre optical cable connection for networking capability. Fibre conduit is being installed in various locations to facilitate this network; this is the 3rd phase of the fibre project. In general, this contract’s purpose to pull approximately 4370m of OSP fibre cable from Finch Dr. to the Fire Hall #1 building on Clarke Dr. This 3” PVC conduit runs adjacent to District roads, paved trails, and a short section along Highway 99. In addition, there are 7 facilities to be connected to this network and 6 locations where the fibre is required to be spliced. In order to accommodate this pull, string needs to be installed in some of the conduit. Conduit access is via 2 buildings, 1 manhole, 5 cabinets in above-grade District sewer and water kiosks, and approximately 30 junction boxes. The manhole is considered a ‘confined space’ and adequate confined spaces safety procedures must be followed when working within it.
