The Isaac Bear Early College High School facility will be a collaborative effort between the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, New Hanover County Schools, and UNCW's College of Education. Advanced planning is being conducted to produce a schematic design and cost estimate. The CMR will assist in advanced planning and design and see the project through construction. Expected Date of Completion of Design 2023 to 2024 depending on stakeholder needs The early college high school (ECHS) model is a postsecondary attainment strategy that research has proven effective in improving graduation rates, narrowing higher education equity gaps, and reducing student loan debts. As an early adopter of the ECHS model North Carolina has 133 Cooperative Innovative High Schools (CIHS) throughout the state. Isaac Bear is one of 11 CIHS schools in the state that partners with a UNC institution.
