As of May 12, 2023, a firm has been awarded. GSU's successful science research program continues to expand and requires facilities growth to accommodate the demand for laboratory and support space, particularly for grant-funded research. It is anticipated that researchers and grant funding will be available to occupy the new building upon completion. The growth of support space for undergrad and graduate research will continue as the research portfolio expands on GSU's Atlanta campus. This building will provide vital space to support a robust and growing science research program and capitalize on GSU's emerging recognition as a nationally-ranked research university. Additional specialized research lab space will enable the university to continue to attract international-class researchers and grants. In the ten years between FY 12-22, GSU's sponsored revenue has grown from $125M to $330M, an increase of 164%. It is anticipated that the proposed building will enable the university to address its research space needs through the next 10+ years. The total project budget is estimated at $100,000,000. The preliminary Stated Cost Limitation (SCL) or construction cost of the Project is estimated at $76,500,000. The final SCL may be revised by the Owner due to final programmatic requirements, funding availability or other circumstances. The Design Professional's services are anticipated to commence by Fall 2022 with construction documents anticipated for completion in Fall 2023. The start of construction is contingent on the availability of funding.
