Location: Petersham Project Type: Bridge - Construction Federal Aid No.: STP(BR-OFF)-003S(230)X MASSDOT - Bridge Replacement Bridge Number P-08-002 (Steel) Glen Valley Road Over the East Branch Swift River The Massachusetts Department of Transportation - Highway Division (MassDOT) is proposing toreplace the existing Glen Valley Road Bridge (No. P-08-002) across the East Branch Swift River and the associated road/bridge approaches in Petersham, MA (See Section III, Appendix A - Locus & Environmental Constraints Maps). The existing bridge is a single span ACROW prefabricated panel modular truss structure supported by existing concrete abutments (1940 bridge) opened to traffic in September 2016 as a temporary replacement for the previous bridge that was closed and removed due to deterioration in May 2010. The proposed work includes the bridge replacement (approximately 100 feet), scour protection at/above ordinary high water (OHW) for the existing abutments (new abutments installed landward/behind existing abutments) and improvements to the existing road approaches east and west of the bridge. Funding for the construction of the project will occur through the Massachusetts Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) administered through the MassDOT.
