The City of Walker has begun the process of replacing the Walker Public Library and is seeking proposals from library interior design and space planning consultants to work with the existing contractor to develop conceptual designs and provide cost estimates for the interior space. The new building will include two levels, each approximately 4,800 square feet. A new site has been secured and a revised conceptual plan for the building is under development. Ideally, the City of Walker would like the consultant to begin working with the contractor as soon as possible. The new Walker Public Library will be located on Tower Avenue in Walker next to the Community Garden and the water tower. The Library serves Walker (population 965), the surrounding communities, and a large influx of summer guests each year. The Walker Public Library is part of the Kitchigami Regional Library System, with branches in Brainerd, Bemidji, Blackduck, Pine River, Cass Lake, Park Rapids, Longville, Walker, and Wadena. The new library design should include both a larger meeting room to accommodate at least 50 people, accessible outside of normal library hours. If possible, the larger meeting room should be designed so that it can be partitioned into two smaller rooms and equipped with technology to support Zoom meetings with speaker, microphone, and TV-type broadcasting capabilities. The Walker Public Library collection has 2500 linear feet of lendable materials and is expected to grow. There are 3 part-time and 1 full-time employees. Questions about the requirements in the RFP should be submitted by email to Hope Fairchild, Walker City Administrator (hfairchild@ci.walker.mn.us). If the questions materially affect the RFP specifications, all proposers will receive copies of the questions and responses without identification of the source of the questions The City of Walker shall have 30 business days after opening of the proposals in which to award the contract.
