Renovation of an educational facility in Thurmont, Maryland. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
Thurmont Elementary School (ES) serves students in third through fifth grade with a Facility Condition Index (FCI) of 32%, classified as critical. FCPS completed a facility and program assessment of Thurmont Elementary to determine opportunities for a limited renovation to extend the life of the building. In October 2020, the Board of Education (BOE) voted to proceed with a limited renovation at Thurmont ES. The project is expected to be completed during the summer of 22 and will include enclosing the 3 open-space portion of the building, addressing security needs aligning spaces with current educational specifications upgrading the HVAC system and completing other energy-efficient upgrades and touch ups to building interiors. This project is in included in the county's FY 2023-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of April 25, 2022, the design build team have been selected. The construction and completion timeline was not released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
