Renovation of a mixed-use development in Vancouver, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a swimming pool.
The Vancouver Aquatic Center, built in 1974, located next to English Bay in Vancouver’s West End, is one of Vancouver's oldest aquatic facility. Due to its inability to meet current and future programming demands and aging building systems, the building is in need of renewal/redevelopment. With a 50-meter 8-lane lap pool, dive tank with a 10-meter diving platform, and spectator seating, it is Vancouver’s only pool capable of hosting competitions. The existing approximately 75,000 square foot facility includes a fitness area, hot pool, sauna, and a shallow teach tank. (b) Building Area: The existing facility is approximately 75,000 square feet in area. Following the renewal project the facility will expand to approximately 135,000 square feet in total with approximately 125,000 square feet allocated to support VanSplash aquatic objectives, and approximately 10,000 square feet of childcare space(if determined to be feasible). The floor area will be confirmed based on the program option selected at the Pre-Design stage.
