As part of an ongoing effort to enhance safety near schools, the Public Works Department applied for and received ATP grant funding to construct new sidewalks around various parts of the city. The City of Anaheim is the lead agency for the design, right-of-way, and construction phases of the Project. The City has completed the PAED phase. All phases of this project are Federally Funded. City Staff conducted an arterial sidewalk and curb ramp survey to identify all remaining sidewalk gaps on the arterial street. The survey revealed five locations with missing sidewalk segments located within one-half mile of school entrances (public or private) where pedestrians must walk on the street, across either lawns, dirt, or uneven segments of private property or cross the road to reach their destinations. Four of five public schools impacted by these sidewalk gaps are located in disadvantaged communities. The Project will construct over 6,500 linear feet of ADA accessible sidewalk near nine schools (five public and four private), closing sidewalk gaps located within one-half mile of a school entrance and re-construction of ADA compliant driveways along the following street segments: Acacia Street, La Palma Avenue, Frontera Street, and Santa Ana Canyon Road. The City of Anaheim is soliciting proposals from qualified professional civil engineering consulting firms to provide the following services, as necessary but not limited to: Project Management and Coordination Preliminary Data Acquisition - Records Research, Utilities and Potholing Survey - Santa Ana Canyon Road Technical Studies/Reports Project Precise Alignment Final Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) Bid & Construction Support Upon completion of the Project, residents will have safe and continuous sidewalks for their children traveling one-half mile or less to school. The Project will also connect residences (including very high-density, disadvantaged communities) to other destinations such as retail locations, service providers, churches, and transit areas.
