Site work and new construction of a power facility in Bowmanville, Ontario. Working plans call for site work for a power facility; and for the construction of a power facility.
Construction of a BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) at the Darlington new nuclear site. The project would be Canada's first commercial, grid-scale SMR. The project includes clearing and grading parts of the site to build roads, utilities and support buildings. TIMELINE: GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy selected as Small Modular Reactor technology development partner. Site preparation works are ongoing. The Owner has held multiple public information centres throughout summer and fall 2024. A 2-part public hearing process is underway in relation to their License to Construction application through the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC); the second hearing is anticipated January 2025. Pending necessary approvals, construction could commence in 2025. Further update may be available spring 2025. *Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has created an alliance with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, SNC-Lavalin, and Aecon to construct North America's first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) at the Darlington New Nuclear Project site.
