The Work will include the installation of approximately 170 LF of 20" HDPE pipe and appurtenances in an existing steel casing pipe under Interstate I-78. The project involves the installation of approximately 170 LF of 20" HDPE DR-9 PVC watermain in an existing 36" steel casing pipe located under 1-78. 2. The existing casing pipe was installed as part of a sanitary sewer project in the mid 1970's and was recently abandoned. The sewer carrier pipe was completely removed, and the existing casing pipe was bulkheaded with brick and mortar and abandoned in place. 3. Location of the existing casing pipe was permanently located by KCE, and both ends of the existing casing will be staked out prior to construction field operations. 4. Contractor will excavate and expose the casing pipe ends, access the casing pipe, and extend the casing pipe an additional 5-foot on either side of the crossing. 5. Excavate, prepare, and secure the carrier pipe sending and receiving pits. Provide adequate protection for the open pits during the construction period. 6. Install the carrier pipe, casing spacers and appurtenances and fill the casing pipe with approved fill material. 7. The new 20" HDPE pipe will be pressure tested in accordance AWWA standards at 200 PSI. No bacteriological Testing will be required. 8. Contractor is responsible to contact Lehigh County PennDOT permits office three working days prior to any field operations.
