Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD's) in the Lake Erie Watershed to provide services to the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets to administer a sediment and nutrient reduction project for agricultural non-point source abatement and control projects on farms in the Lake Erie Watershed. Services must result in the implementation of activities that will reduce, abate, control, or prevent soil erosion/nonpoint source pollution originating from agricultural sources. Eligible applicants are Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) who will be referred to as the "Project Sponsor" for the Lake Erie Region. The NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking services from one of the eligible County SWCDs to provide administrative and technical services that result in the implementation of erosion and sediment control and nutrient reduction projects to reduce agricultural pollutants from entering Lake Erie. Taking an aggressive approach to addressing sediment and nutrient concerns stemming from agriculture within the Lake Erie Watershed will significantly reduce the concerns facing Lake Erie. At the same time, it is anticipated that the results will reduce the number of Harmful Algal Blooms occurrences affecting the lake. Key conservation practices, including field-level erosion control, agronomic best management practices, stream bank stabilization and riparian buffers will improve nearshore water quality
