XL Construction has been awarded the UC Berkeley Bechtel Engineering Center project, a student services building, to renovate the existing two-story cast-in-place concrete building and add a two-story addition on top. The addition will be approximately 36,000sf and the renovation approximately 15,000sf. The buildout will include offices, meeting and assembly spaces, lounges, classrooms, a café, and roof terraces. Construction is scheduled to begin Summer 2023 and finish Q4 2024. This project is seeking either LEED Silver or Gold. The addition will consist of primarily glazing with accents of metal cladding, and a signature canopy. The existing lower two floors existing skin will be replaced with glazing and a new solid panel rainscreen system or alternative panel system. XL is seeking design-assist exterior glazing and cladding subcontractors and design-build fire sprinkler subcontractors who are interested in joining the project team. Scopes will be awarded based on lowest lump sum bid.
