Lone Fir Cemetary - Cultural Heritage & Healing Garden At Lone Fir, a transformation is taking shape in the corner of the cemetery near the intersection of Southeast 20th Avenue and Southeast Morrison Street: a cultural heritage and healing garden to honor Chinese immigrants buried there, as well as patients from a nearby mental hospital. It is planned for an area at the southwest corner of the cemetery, labeled “Block 14” on cemetery maps. Block 14 served as the Chinese section of Lone Fir during the 1800s and early 20th century. In the 1950s it was paved over to build an office space for Multnomah County. That building has been torn down and the land has been reincorporated into the cemetery. The memorial will be shaped by input from the community and funded through the voter-approved 2019 parks and nature bond. The memorial is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This project is included in the capital improvement plan for FY2024-2028. Project is funded for FY2023-2026. As of November 15, 2023, per owner, they have just released conceptual level designs and hope to break ground in 2025, with completion by end of 2026. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
