This project extends the current runway by 800 feet, taking it from 5,500 to 6,300 feet. Phase one of this project removed obstructions in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Virginia Department of Aviation (VA DOAV) regulations that require a clear and unobstructed approach to airport runways. Land acquisition for required easements was completed in FY2025. Design development and permitting will begin in FY2026, followed by construction beginning in FY2027 with anticipated completion of the project in FY2028.
