Site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Working plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
Replace the existing bridge over the DeButts Railyard with a new structure south of the current bridge to reconnect East Chattanooga to the Tennessee Riverwalk. The existing bridge will stay open with weight restrictions during construction. The project also includes pedestrian and bicycle improvements: a 12.5-foot multi-use path, a 6.5-foot pedestrian walkway, and a 4-foot buffer separating both from vehicle traffic. As of August 17, 2026, this project is being delivered through a construction manager / general contractor method. An engineer and a construction manager have been selected. Construction is expected to start in fourth quarter 2026, with completion in fourth quarter 2029. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). *Information regarding subcontractor bidding has not been disclosed to the content management team at this time.
