Demolition and site work for a bridge / tunnel in Covington, Virginia. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; and for site work for a bridge / tunnel.
PURPOSE: The Virginia Department of Transportation (herein referred to as "VDOT") is soliciting bids from qualified firms to remove a truss and a single span steel girder and concrete deck superstructure from Rte 710 over Dunlap Creek near I-64 Exit 10 in Alleghany County which is within the VDOT Staunton District, an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in accordance with the specifications contained herein. Award will be made on a Grand Total basis. Rte. 710 over Dunlap Creek will be undergoing a superstructure replacement. FED ID: 1199, VA NO. 03-6092. The existing structure is 196.85 x 23.95 steel truss bridge with concrete deck. The proposed is a single lane modular bridge that will be placed on the existing substructure. Trees will most likely have to be cut for the crane to place the new superstructure. Work will not cause an increase in flood level by more than one foot within a regulatory floodway of water courses of water bodies or work affecting the base floodplain (100-year flood) elevations of a water course or lake. Bridge will be closed to traffic during construction. Location Where Work Will Be Performed: Rte 710 - Alleghany County PERIOD OF CONTRACT: Sixty (60) days from the date of award (non-renewable) QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS INVITATION FOR BID: Any questions regarding this invitation for bid shall be addressed to Rebecca Smith Coburn at Rebecca.Coburn@VDOT.virginia.gov. The issuing office shall determine whether any addendum should be issued as a result of any questions or other matters raised. Provide questions no later than 5:00 PM on October 7, 2022. * To submit an online bid, please refer to the online bidding instructions at: https://dgs.virginia.gov/globalassets/business-units/dps/documents/vbo/online-bidding-instructions-ifb.pdf All work shall be performed within the existing VDOT Right of Way, which is 15' from centerline of road. The Contractor may negotiate permission to access structures from adjacent property owners at no cost or responsibility to VDOT. All work shall be conducted above ordinary high water (OHW) of Dunlap Creek. The Contractor shall ensure that proper containment is set up to prevent any debris from entering the stream. OHW will be clearly marked by VDOT. The Contractor shall coordinate any necessary tree trimming/cutting with VDOT. Cutting of trees will be the responsibility of VDOT. The Contractor shall be responsible for any site preparation. . An access road has been built on the east side of the property. This road shall be considered the residence's driveway. The Contractor shall use this road as lightly as possible. VDOT shall be notified of any damage done to the access road as a result of construction access. The Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining the access road during construction. Utility lines cross the access road. . All removal activities shall be conducted in accordance with Section 411 and 413 of the 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications. . The Contractor shall develop and submit a deconstruction plan to the Department for review and acceptance within seven (7) calendar days prior to superstructure removal. The Contractor shall follow posted loads when developing a deconstruction plan. . Bridge # 01199 is a Type B structure. Therefore, the Contractor shall follow the Environmental and Worker Protection requirements of Section 413 of the 2020 VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, and other sections referenced therein. Materials removed from the project such as steel beams, wooden timbers, or concrete should be beneficially reused or shall be removed to a waste disposal facility with a valid permit to receive such materials; Contractor shall obtain approval from VDOT if material is beneficially reused. All costs associated with disposal shall be worked into the total bid price.
