The City of Orillia presently operates the Orillia Drinking Water System that incorporates a Surface Water Filtration Plant, three (3) non-GUDI Well sites and approximately 201 km of watermains within the distribution system. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is the local health unit for the City's drinking water system. The City Wastewater System is comprised of a Wastewater Treatment Centre and a Wastewater Collection System made up of 21 sanitary pumping stations, one stormwater pump station and 175 km of wastewater mains. The City presently operates a Waste Diversion Site, which includes a 24.3 ha sanitary landfill within a 40.5 ha parcel of land. The City undertakes groundwater and surface water sampling at this active landfill and at a former landfill site now operated as Kitchener Park. Raw sewage environmental compliance testing is performed at local industries that have Industrial Waste Surcharge Agreements in place with the City. Comprehensive water sampling is undertaken to satisfy operational and regulatory requirements. Sampling frequency may increase or decrease from time to time.
