The Sea to Sky Natural Resource District is seeking a contractor to carry out the implementation process of a Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR) fuel treatment project around the community of Devine (D'Arcy, BC). The WRR project is intended reduce the threat of wildfire in the immediate Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) in the community of Devine, as well as provide some protection to the railway and Pemberton Portage transportation corridors. It also contributes to an existing landscape level fuel break above Devine and D'Arcy created in the mid 2000s. Activities include, but are not limited to: hand falling, bucking, brushing, pruning, slashing, and piling and burning of non-merchantable timber, branches, and tops. The contractor will be required to cut between 10-15 cords of firewood for disposition by the District Manager. This unit borders the railway right of way, transmission line right of way, and will anchor into the Halymore burn units and rocky slopes in the east to create a shaded fuel break to slow/stop a crown fire moving into the stand and towards Devine if it were to approach from the South. The total area being treated as part of this work comprise 8.2 hectares. All manual falling, debris removal, and burning must be complete by March 15, 2023. No burn piles shall be left on site by the contractor in any treatment unit. Note: venting conditions are often poor in the winter months; it is important to complete burning during appropriate venting indices in accordance with the Wildfire Act. Burning should be completed throughout the length of the project, rather than saved until the final step.
