As of April 2025, the project is on hold pending owner review. Information regarding contractor bidding and construction have not been established. Scope Summary: design and construction of a new hangar large enough to accommodate service of three (3) lines of transport aircraft such as Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s, with hangar floor area of approximately 55,000 square feet and 8,500 square feet of shop and office space. Shop and office space shall be designed as conditioned shell space to be upfit by a prospective tenant. If feasible, the fire suppression system shall be designed such that water is fed from existing tanks in the vicinity. The project is to include the hangar and improvements necessary to connect the building to adjacent auto parking lots and new aircraft parking ramp. The proposed site is just North of the hangar facility located at 4001 North Liberty Street. Pursuant to N.C. Statute Sec. 143-128.1(A), the County of Forsyth is soliciting proposals from qualified design-build teams interested in providing professional design and construction services for the Smith Reynolds Airport New Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Hangar Project.
