Update:https://www.palmbayflorida.org/home/showpublisheddocument/27584/638670100227930000 Spent lime sludge is a by-product of the lime softening water treatment process at the North Regional Water Treatment Plant (NRWTP). The current method of dewatering the sludge is drying beds which incorporates a large area of the property and over time has deteriorated and will require costly repairs. The FY21 request will allow the Department to evaluate the drying beds and perform a cost-benefit analysis to determine if a new technology is warranted. Upon completion of the evaluation, the Department will either rehabilitate the existing drying bed system or will move forward with the previously-approved design for a new lime sludge drying technology that will require a much smaller footprint and will be a more efficient method for sludge dewatering.
