The City of Merced, Engineering Department, is seeking proposals for potholing utility lines. SCOPE OF SERVICE The work consists of potholing for utilities on Canal Street between 16 th Street and Arbor Lane. See attached Pothole Exhibit. This is a City of Merced Capital Improvement Project which includes, but is not limited to: o Expansion of Bob Hart Square; o Removal and replacement of the existing 16-inch water main in Canal Street between 16 th Street and Arbor Lane; and o Relocation and potential replacement of existing services and devises (fire hydrants, meters, etc.). Please provide the following services in close cooperation with the City: TASK 1 - POTHOLING 1. Contractor shall pothole utilities by means of an approved vacuum truck or trailer, or by small hand tools. Damages cause to any utility shall be repaired by the contractor, at no additional cost to the City. 2. Contractor shall notify Underground Service Alert (USA), at 1-800-277-2600, 48- hours prior to potholing activities. 3. Verify and document the exact location of the existing utility, plan provided is approximate. Coordinate with the governing utility company if needed. 4. Contractor shall set a PK nail of fixed marker adjacent to each pothole, measure the vertical and horizontal distance to top of utility and bottom of utility, verify the size, and provide a description of the utility located. For conduit clusters, record quantity and distance to the bottom of cluster. Label each PK nail of fixed marker on pavement and clearly label plan of spreadsheet with the collected data. 5. The contractor shall obtain an encroachment permit from the City of Merced for all potholing. This entire project is within the City Right-of-Way. 6. The contractor shall be responsible for maintaining proper traffic control device, and public convenience and safety. 7. Backfill all potholes with Class 3 ASB (sand) and compact backfill to 90% relative compaction. All paved areas shall have 2" minimum temporary surfacing (cold mix) placed, compacted and level to pavement grade. 8. All excess debris from the potholing operations shall be removed and/or disposed of by the contractor immediately upon collection of the data and prior to the opening of traffic
