Capital Projects at the University of California, Berkeley (the University), invites interested Consultants to submit written statements of qualifications to provide special structural testing services for the Bechtel Engineering Center Addition and Renovation for the College of Engineering. The Consultant shall at a minimum have past experience with qualification or prequalification testing of at least four moment connections in accordance with the requirements of AISC 341, or other equivalent qualified experience. The Consultant shall have actuators sufficient for the displacement and force demands, sufficient space to fit the specimen, and availability to meet the testing schedule as outlined in UCB Bechtel Engineering Center, General Requirements for Shape Memory Alloy Testing Program - Section F. Overall Schedule. The Consultant shall be (or shall hire a subconsultant as) the structural steel framing fabricator for the testing scope and shall be an AISC Certified Building Fabricator. The Consultant shall be (or shall hire a subconsultant as) the structural steel framing installer for the testing scope and shall be a certified AISC Category CASE steel erector. The Bechtel Engineering Center Addition and Renovation project will be located at the existing Bechtel Engineering Center on the University of California, Berkeley campus. The Bechtel project would retain existing program uses and renovate key interior spaces, as well as add approximately 35,000 GSF of new program space for student interaction and collaboration. This project will add two stories to the existing structure. Structural framing for the addition will include a system of buckling restrained braced frames (BRB) at the interior. At the perimeter, the framing will incorporate tension rods, with energy- dissipating Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) elements.
