Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Bishop, California. Design plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; and sidewalk / parking lot.

As of October 15 2024 this is in design and on hold for 6 months. Scope Project Description and Vision The intent of the Downtown Bishop PARKways project is to create, enhance, and expand community green spaces in downtown Bishop by transforming asphalt parking lots and alleyways into green corridors, pedestrian plazas, and paths with safer and more efficient traffic and pedestrian circulation. The focus area is Whitney Alley and the surrounding parking lots and City easements, between Willow and Short Streets (Exhibit A). The project seeks to replace a minimum of 15% of asphalt in the project area with green infrastructure including bioswales, drought tolerant landscaping, and shade trees. The goal is to not only reduce the heat island effect and the energy consumption for cooling, but also to create pollinator habitat and increase access to green space. The project should also endeavor to create a pocket park with simple recreational equipment for families and appropriate space to encourage community gathering. Spaces for community-based art should also be identified. The project will support the community's vision to be pedestrian friendly and address critical safety issues where vehicular versus pedestrian conflicts have occurred. The project should create safe and separate paths of travel that will encourage use of footpaths and support economic vibrancy of downtown Bishop. The pedestrian paths should be designed in a visually appealing and artistic manner that is suitable for the built environment. The notice to proceed for the design contract will be shortly after the award in January 2023 with an estimated contract time of 10 months. Construction bidding is expected to occur in September 2023 with construction commencing in November 2023. The grant will expire in March 2025, which includes time for plant establishment and grant close out documentation. The anticipated cost of construction of the project is between $250,000 and $350,000.
