Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Covington, Georgia. Working plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

The proposed project would construct a replacement bridge carrying SR 81 over Dried Indian Creek. The bridge would be replaced at its existing location. Traffic would be maintained via an off-site detour during construction. Motorists traveling along SR 81 between Covington and Oxford would have to detour around the project location during construction using SR 12, I-20, and SR 162 that is approximately 19.5 miles long. The proposed structure would be approximately 68.0 feet long by 53.42 feet wide. This proposed bridge typical section includes three 12-foot lanes, and a 2-foot shoulder and 5.5-foot sidewalk on both sides. The proposed roadway approaches would consist of three 12-foot lanes, and 30 curb and gutter, 2 foot grass strip, and 5 foot sidewalk on both sides. The replacement bridge is proposed to be skewed approximately 25 degrees from normal to better align the opening with the direction of flow during storm events.
