Site work for a water / sewer project in Hutchinson, Kansas. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The existing stormwater pipe is estimated to have been installed prior to 1900. The existing structure is a 39" concrete pipe. It currently begins on 8th Avenue approximately 150 feet east of Town Street and runs due south for approximately 1300 feet before making a turn and angling southeast for approximately 255 feet to 4th and Superior Street, it then continues south under Superior Street for approximately 1300 feet. At this point it turns east and upsizes to a 42" concrete pipe for approximately 350 feet and finally turns south and upsizes again to a 48" concrete pipe and falls out into an open channel. Preliminary evaluation and ranking of technical proposals will take place on or about January 31, 2023. The project is intended to mitigate frequent flooding up to the 2-year event of 1st Avenue and Star Street and includes conveyance improvements. Existing storm sewers will be upgraded with larger pipe, the open channels will be expanded, with a new relief sewer added to divert flow west and away from the flooding area. The improvements required to meet 2-year and 10-year levels of service are discussed in the following subsections.
