The County currently has three permit approved upland sand sources: Stewart's Immokalee mine, Vulcan's Witherspoon mine, and CEMEX's Lake Wales mine. Mines not listed in Collier County's permit may be eligible for addition if approved as a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) certified supplier of beach quality fill. It is assumed that the sand will have up to an 5% moisture content, leading to a relationship of 1.5 tons/cubic yards for sand delivery from the pit. The supplied sand must meet the requirements of the County's existing 15- year Beach Nourishment permits as well as the County's technical sand specifications.
