Renovation of a detention facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Completed plans call for the renovation of a detention facility.

Graham Design Builders LP (Graham), as Construction Manager for Alberta Infrastructure requests submissions from Bidders for above named project (the Project) as outlined in the Project Overview and Construction Documents. The intent of this Tender is to solicit and receive formal bid offers to perform the following Work: Work Package 1 Hazardous Materials Abatement Selective demolition required to complete the hazardous materials abatement PROJECT DESCIPRTION The Former Edmonton Remand Centre (FERC), located along 97 Street and 103A Avenue, is just outside if the Downtown Special Area. It is in the Boyle Street Community and currently zoned Alternative Jurisdiction (AJ). Below the FERCs south facing paved entry way is an underground light rail transit (LRT) tunnel and station box bisection the provincially owned parcel of land. The FERC is a 7-story plus basement structure with an area of approximately 18,495 m2, built in 1980. The principle structural component is cast in place concrete and the wall cladding is precast concrete. The building has a mezzanine level on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. The six floor includes a two-story mechanical room and the seventh floor, or penthouse, has additional mechanical equipment and the elevator machine room. There are recreational courtyards with security mesh roofs on the ground and 6th floors. The main floor includes administrative functions, and a gymnasium. Basement areas are primary for shipping and receiving of goods and prisoners, and kitchen functions. The building is currently unoccupied with limited power and utility services. The building is linked to the adjacent Brownlee Building, Provincial Law Courts, and the City of Edmonton Police Headquarters by an underground tunnel system which parallels the Citys Pedway system and is linked to the LRT system. The intent of this project is to fully abate and demolish the FERC and cap-off existing utility lines and underground infrastructure with no future purposes, with and end state of the current site being constructed for use a parking area. The project value listed reflects the total project estimate.
