Site work and paving for a road / highway in Park Forest, Illinois. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
The Village of Park Forest is requesting a Statement of Qualifications from Professional Engineering firms for Phase I Engineering and project management services, with the option to negotiate a contract for Phase II Design Engineering and Phase III Construction Engineering, for a Federal Aid - Urban (FAU) roadway improvement project. The firms must be familiar with, but not limited to, the standards and specifications for environmental clearance, investigating, planning, surveying, and designing of roadway projects as well as the applicable/respective Phase paperwork and procurement requirements and procedures of the State of Illinois (through the Illinois Dept. of Transportation - IDOT) and the United States Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The Village of Park Forest is a Southland suburb incorporated in 1948. Park Forest is located approximately 30 miles south of downtown Chicago with bordering communities of Olympia Fields, Chicago Heights, University Park, and Richton Park. Park Forest (population 21,687) is located in Cook and Will Counties and is a member of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA). This project is anticipated to be funded primarily by Surface Transportation Program funds (STP) of SSMMA, with a local match of Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds or applicable Transportation Development Credits Highway (TDCH - Tollway credits). The purpose/need of this project is to replace a deteriorating roadway and to improve pavement conditions for motorists and bicyclists. This section of roadway services residential areas, a former high school, community Tennis and Health Club, a middle school, 4 churches, a senior living high rise, Village maintenance yard, and public parks. Other project location details consist of an existing shared lane bikeway facility along a portion of this roadway, a Village wetland is in near proximity and coordination with Cook County and IDOT may/will be needed at termini locations. The current total estimated cost for all engineering phases and construction is $4,331,000. At this time, there are no additional anticipated concerns/issues with this project, except those related to location details stated above. The current time table goal is to receive Phase 1 Design approval around October 2024, Final Plans and Specifications submitted around August 2026, for a November 2026 Letting and 2027 Construction.
