Asphalt streets throughout the City are inspected and rated every three years. The main contributing factors that affect rating is ride-ability and the strength of the road structure. The City selects approximately 135,0000 square meters of poorly rated streets every year to create our annual Pavement Rehabilitation Program. Generally, rehabilitation includes: repairing drainage issues along concrete curb and gutters, milling 50mm-100mm of asphalt off the surface, and then laying down 50mm - 100mm of asphalt concrete pavement. Some sections of road may be required to be sub cut and additional asphalt placed to strengthen the area. Roadways with relatively thin surface asphalt may on occasion be taken down to exposed granular layer, reshaped and prepared for placement of the new asphalt pavement. A few asphalt back alleys and parking lots are also selected each year for rehab work. The major work items in the 2023 Pavement Rehabilitation Program include approximately: 144,000 sq.m. of milling (depths varying from 35mm to 140mm full depth) 22,000 tonnes of asphaltic concrete overlay 230 sq.m. extra depth asphalt repair patching 10,000 sq.m. of reshaping and compacting granular base 1,500 lin.m. of Thermoplastic Pavement Markings 8,000 lin.m. of Paint Marking Work on the various phases for all schedules (A through DD) may begin on: Phase 1 - June 1, 2023 Phase 2 - June 7, 2023 Phase 3 - July 7, 2023 Phase 4 - August 7, 2023 Phase 5 - September 7, 2023 Documents can be obtained from https://reddeer.bidsandtenders.ca/
