Site work for a water / sewer project in Forks, Washington. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

Olympic National Forest Road 2900072 Decommissioning. In partnership with the Olympic National Forest, the Wild Salmon Center is seeking a contractor to complete road decommissioning work along Forest Service Road 2900072, outside of Forks, WA. To protect water quality and fish habitat in the Sitkum River, this work will include removal of all culvert crossings, restoration of natural drainage patterns, road surface scarification, and outsloping of unstable soils along 1.5 miles of road. This work went through an environmental and public review period in 2014 (Calawah Watershed Road Decommissioning Environmental Assessment) and has received grant funding. Interested contractors should contact Betsy Krier at (360) 986-6380 or bkrier@ wildsalmoncenter.org to receive the RFP instructions and a link to the preliminary worklist, specifications, and required response templates. The estimated contract award date is March 10th. Construction will be completed between June 1 and October 30th of 2023. Project Location: (47.948575, -124.194946) The project area is the Calawah drainage, a Quillayute River tributary on the western Olympic Peninsula. The primary landowner is the Olympic National Forest. The road is Olympic National Forest Road 2900072, a spur to the 2900070 which accesses the Snider Jackson trailhead. This road can be accessed from Forks, WA by traveling the 2900 ("A" road) for approximately 11 miles to the junction of the 2900070, and turning right to go over the Sitkum Bridge, then continuing approximately 0.2 miles. There is currently a locked gate approximately 10.5 miles up the 2900 road. For site visit access prior to the close of this RFP, contact Betsy Krier to have the gate opened. (A key will be provided for the period of construction.) Project Summary: In partnership with the Olympic National Forest, the Wild Salmon Center (WSC) is seeking a contractor to complete road decommissioning work along Forest Service Road 2900072. The goal of the project is to protect water quality and fish habitat in the Sitkum River by minimizing the threat of road-initiated landslides along 1.5 miles of road. The 2900072 road is closed to vehicle use and will not be maintained by the Forest Service; they have identified it for decommissioning. It is also on an unstable slope with several stream crossings that are in poor condition. This decommissioning work will include removal of all culvert crossings, restoration of natural drainage patterns, road surface scarification, and outsloping of unstable soils. This work went through an environmental and public review period in 2014 (Calawah Watershed Road Decommissioning Environmental Assessment). This project is funded through the Washington Coast Restoration and Resiliency Initiative (PRISM project# 20-1357). As a state funded project, Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Prevailing Wage Rates will apply.
