There is a subsurface problem related to soil instability causing pavement failure on Route 9W/Route 32 overlap between the eastbound Interstate 84 ramps and Plank Road (Reference Route 980T). The problem has created a reoccurring depression in the pavement. A drainage structure within 500 feet to the north of the area with the reoccurring pavement issue requires work to function properly. This project will address the source of the subsurface problem, correct the issue, and repave the affected area of pavement, extend the paving to just north of the Route 9W and Route 32 intersection to correct rutted pavement surfaces as well as improve an existing drainage structure near the subsurface issue location. This project will correct the pavement issue from recurring at this location, decrease pavement conditions that may contribute to motorist lane departures in avoidance of uneven pavement surfaces and the potential for crashes that lane departure could contribute to, as well as improve the function of a drainage structure between the eastbound Interstate 84 on-ramp and the Interstate 84 off-ramp to US Route 9W in the northbound direction in the Town of Newburgh and City of Newburgh in Orange County. The Bid Opening is expected to be in Spring 2023. Construction is expected to begin in Summer 2023. Construction is expected to be completed in Winter 2023/2024.
