Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Quinte Health have awarded a contract to M. Sullivan & Son Limited to continue to deliver progress on the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Site Redevelopment Project. Infrastructure Ontario and Quinte Health selected M. Sullivan & Son Limited following extensive evaluations through an open, fair and competitive procurement process that began in March 2023. The new hospital will be a leading, cutting-edge health care facility designed to meet the needs of the local community now and for years to come. The new facility will feature improved equipment and facilities including a 24-hour emergency department, helipad, surgical suite, dialysis unit and other specializations. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2024. Infrastructure Ontario and Quinte Health are working with the Ministry of Health to deliver this Project. Construction of a replacement hospital on a new site. The new Quinte Healthcare Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital will be a leading-edge facility. It is being designed to allow for 23 inpatient beds. The emergency department is being designed for 13 rooms. The new hospital will respond to the needs and values of the community while providing services appropriate to the region. The hospital will be designed to fully align with current codes and infection control standards. Operational effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability are top priorities for the build. The building will total 95,692 sq ft and be laid out on two levels. The layout includes key departments such as the emergency department, ambulatory clinics and the inpatient unit co-located on the first floor. The second floor includes dialysis, administration, and mechanical spaces. The Sponsors are responsible for the design of the Project; the Successful Proponent will construct the hospital in phases. The new hospital building will be required to be constructed while the existing hospital remains in operation. Once the new hospital is completed and services are transitioned from the existing hospital to the new hospital, the existing hospital will be required to be demolished and the area reconfigured by the construction of a new parking lot, helipad and landscaping.
