The Los Angeles Area Regional Water Quality board (Board) issued a Water Discharge Permit to the City on February 8, 2018. The permit covers a 10-year period, but there are interim milestones that the City is mandated to accomplish or face significant fines or penalties. The City has completed the design of the AWTF and has been approved for State Revolving Fund (SRF) financing which may be approved in the early FY23/24. Chlorides in the WRF effluent has been declining over the past 5 years. The City is currently completing a City wide Chloride study to analyze the trend and confirm the need for the project. The study should be completed in early FY23/24 which upon completion, the City Council will determine the need for approval of the SRF financing. The project is included in the City of Santa Puala's FY 2024-2025 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of May 8, 2024, information regarding a design team or a general contractor is not available.
