https://theconstructionbroadsheet.com/sundtjacobs-team-selected-for-m-arizona-i-project-p1845-175.htm Sundt-Jacobs team selected for $600M Arizona I-10 project The Arizona State Transportation Board has approved a contract with Sundt-Jacobs for the largest construction project in southern Arizona history – the $600 million reconstruction and widening of Interstate 10 (I-10) near downtown Tucson, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The design-build project, which the ADOT expects will begin in 2025 and wrap up in 2028, will include: Widening I-10 to three lanes in each direction between Kino Parkway and Alvernon Way and to four lanes in each direction west of Kino Parkway; Reconstruction of the interchange at Kino Parkway; Removal of the existing interchange at Palo Verde Road; Construction of a new interchange at Country Club Road, which will provide safer access to and from I-10 for the traffic that now uses the Palo Verde Road interchange; Construction of a new westbound on-ramp at the Alvernon Way interchange; and Construction of an I-10 undercrossing to connect the North and South Kino Sports Complex. The project is the first to result from a 2020 study that developed ways to best improve mobility along approximately 10 miles of I-10 and that identified an alignment for an extension of State Route 210 that will connect I-10 to downtown Tucson, the ADOT said. The department said it will share more details on improvements to the two corridors early next year. At its most recent meeting, the State Transportation Board also approved other infrastructure contracts, which include (rounded dollar amounts): $4.7 million to Combs Construction Company Inc. (Combs) for the removal of existing roadways and intersection, the installation of a one-lane roundabout with lighting, sidewalks and related work along Highway 89 in the town of Page in Coconino County; $2.6 million to Asphalt Paving & Supply Inc. for raised median construction, pavement markings application, signing and lighting installation and other related work in Bullhead City, Mohave County; $2.4 million to The Ashton Company Inc. for guardrail and guardrail end terminal replacement, drainage improvement, rock fall mitigation and related work within the boundaries of the Tohono O’odham Nation in Pima County; $2.3 million to Combs for drainage improvements at five locations, replacement of existing pavement, removal of existing guardrail and fence, riprap placement, pavement marking and related work near Gila Bend in Maricopa County; and $2.1 million to Sunland Asphalt & Construction LLC for removal and replacement of existing asphalt, pavement markings, sidewalk ramps, pedestrian access improvements and related work in Navajo County. _____________________________________________________ The proposed Design-Build project work is located on Interstate 10 (I-10) from approximately Park Avenue to Alvernon Way. The work includes designing and, reconstructing I-10 between Park Avenue and Kino Parkway to four general-purpose lanes (GPL) in each direction, including auxiliary lanes between successive entrance and exit ramps; reconstructing I-10 between Kino Parkway and Alvernon Way to three GPL in each direction, including auxiliary lanes between successive entrance and exit ramps; reconstructing Kino Parkway to improve existing traffic and safety issues; constructing new bridges at Ajo Way, Kino Parkway, and the Tucson Diversion Channel; constructing two new I-10 eastbound (EB) entrance ramps between Park Avenue and Kino Parkway; removing the existing Palo Verde traffic interchange (TI) and constructing a new TI at Country Club Road, constructing new bridges at Country Club Road, Irvington Road, and Palo Verde Road; constructing a new I-10 westbound (WB) entrance ramp from Alvernon Way; and constructing a new undercrossing of I-10 at the Pima County Kino Sports Complex. The minimum contract-specified goal for participation by Disadvantaged Business Enterprises in the work will be as specified in the RFP.
