The Town of Westminster seeks estimates from Design/Build Firms for the creation of pathways and spaces for a new garden and public space located at 62 Leominster St/Finnish Farmers CoOp Building/Grounds. The Westminster Finnish Farmer Co-op Garden will serve many purposes. With its visible location, the garden will first serve as a gateway into the "village" of Westminster from the eastern side of town. As a collaborative effort between many boards, committees and groups, the garden will provide an opportunity to teach visitors both young and old about the history of Westminster, about plants that we can grow, eat and utilize while simultaneously serving as a pollinator friendly space. As such, the garden will include areas for teaching, relaxation, and fellowship along with numerous areas for gardens of all types, shapes and sizes Phase one of the garden project is to establish the path system throughout the garden that includes an area for a water feature, an outdoor classroom and a fire pit. The grounds will be cleared of brush, unwanted trees and stumps but will require some site work to be level enough for ADA accessibility without impeding the natural slope of the land. It's imperative the pathways in the garden be ADA compliant to the greatest extent possible while meandering and not "fussy." The historic Finnish Farmers Co-op building is on the site and will play an integral part in the garden; the design should reflect that connection An area for pull in parking that will be ADA accessible and accommodate 2 cars, and a gravel pull-in lot along Leominster Street are to be included in phase one.
