Site work and new construction of a detention facility in Orient, Ohio. Completed plans call for the construction of a detention facility; and for site work for a detention facility.

The State intends to select a Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) to assist with design and to provide construction services for an expanded facility at the Pickaway Correctional Institution. The project will include multiple buildings, structures, site work, utility construction and coordination of many disciplines, consultants, contractors and stakeholders. Pickaway Correctional Institution (PCI) was opened as a correctional facility in 1984 in Orient, Ohio just south of Columbus. Dating back to the 1920's, this facility was one of Ohio's mental health hospitals. Many buildings on the campus are former hospital buildings and are in poor condition. This project will replace some of the residential buildings. The following list of anticipated facilities and scope categories are in order of priority and will be completed as funds allow. This project will extend over multiple State budget cycles; funds may be added to complete more items 1. Demolition. Removal of structures, pavement, utilities, site amenities to facilitate construction of the new facilities. 2. Site Preparation. Excavation, utilities, roads, walks and extensive preparatory work for approximately 50-acre site. 3. Housing Community consisting of approximately 100,000 SF of residential buildings - three 30,000 SF mirror image housing units and one 10,000 SF activities/administration building. Design work is almost complete, with CD level building plans for the structures. The successful CMR firm will assist the design team in completion of construction documents for site, utility, demolition, perimeter fence and associated site-specific plans and specifications. 4. Perimeter Fence consisting of removal/replacement/construction of new secure perimeter fence of approximately 4,000 LF to enclose the new facilities and connect the new area to the current PCI campus. 5. Vehicular Sally Port consisting of relocation of current VSP. The existing VSP will be inside the fenced area of the new construction, so a new VSP will be constructed to service the campus. Bidding strategies, planning and design of remaining scope items and categories is expected to be completed by the design team and the CMR firm in a manner that most efficiently utilizes available resources Professional design services have been acquired by the Contracting Authority under a separate contract. Information that is currently available will be shared with CMR candidate firms during the short list and interview process; some information is also available via our website with a search for PCI. The Program of Requirements (POR) as well as other design stage deliverables will be developed by the entire project team and will commence immediately upon award. All aspects of the project and related issues will be implemented and operated consistent with the Contracting Authority and/or Owner's policies and procedures.
