Site work for a playground / park / athletic field in Lincoln, Nebraska. Completed plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field.
Base Bid: Proposed work shall include cleaning, repairing, and resurfacing with markings of the existing twelve (12) outdoor tennis courts at the Woods Tennis Center (WTC). Approximate total area to be resurfaced is 77,300 square feet and the total cracking to be repaired is estimated to be 2,480 linear feet using Crack Flex for minor cracking and 480 linear feet using Armor Crack Repair System for more significant cracking. Work Schedule: Work shall be completed between May 21, 2023, and July 3, 2023 and staged/ scheduled so that 9 of the 12 outdoor courts are always accessible and available for use by the Woods Tennis Court (WTC) throughout the construction schedule. A. CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS 1. Contractor shall be regularly engaged for a minimum of the last 3 years in the installation of tennis court crack repair systems of similar type to that specified. 2. Contractor shall employ persons trained for installation of crack repair systems. 3. Contractor shall be a certified installer of the specified systems. B. QUALITY ASSURANCE 1. The Owner will identify a designated representative for all communication to go through during the course of the project. 2. A pre-construction meeting will be held on the court prior to any work beginning. Contractor's lead technician shall go over the scope of work with the Owner and answer any questions. 3. Owner's representative shall be contacted daily by the Contractor's lead technician to give a progress report. 4. A post-construction inspection shall be held after the work has been installed to review completeness of work and identify a final punch list. C. SUBMITTALS AFTER AWARD 1. One copy of the color coating manufacturer's product specification sheet. 2. One surface color sample. 3. One copy of the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each product to be used. 4. One copy of the certificate that Contractor is a member of the American Sports Builders Association in good standing. D. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING 1. Delivery and Acceptance Requirements: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer. 2. Storage and Handling Requirements: a. Store and handle materials in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. b. Keep materials in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and packaging until installation. c. Store materials in clean, dry area. d. Store materials out of direct sunlight. e. Keep materials from freezing. f. Protect materials during storage, handling, and installation to prevent contamination or damage. E. MATERIALS 1. NOVA Sports 100% acrylic color coating system for concrete and asphalt substrates - Sections M - U. 2. Armor Crack Repair System - Section H. 3. No substitutions for the acrylic color surfacing system shall be approved. F. PRE-RENOVATION PROCEDURES MATERIALS 1. The Owner shall clear all courts of all objects, including nets. G. SURFACE PREPARATION 1. Prepare surfaces and cracks in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. 2. Ensure surfaces and cracks are dry, clean, and contaminate free. 3. Remove dirt, dust, debris, oil, grease, mildew, pollen, vegetation, leaves, and other surface contaminants which could adversely affect installation of tennis court crack repair system. 4. Remove the following existing materials. a. Crack repair materials, including rubberized crack fillings that are loose or not bonded well to surfaces. b. Paints and coatings not bonded well to surfaces. c. Paints and coatings over asphalt emulsion materials compromised by water infiltration. d. Asphalt emulsion materials. H. INSTALLATION OF ARMOR CRACK REPAIR SYSTEM 1. ARMOR CRACK REPAIR SYSTEM as identified in Section R. 2. Follow manufacturer's instructions as stated in product specifications. Visit www.armorcrackrepair.com. 3. Five (5) year warranty on ARMOR CRACK REPAIR SYSTEM. I. COURT RESURFACING 1. Systems Specifications - Sections M - U. 2. Colors: Choice of colors shall be coordinated with the Owner. J. LINE STRIPING 1. Lay out the court for striping according to the United States Tennis Association (USTA). 2. Color: White. K. CLEAN UP 1. The job site shall be left neat and clean. 2. All application related debris shall be cleaned up and disposed of properly. 3. All unused material shall be recycled. L. WARRANTY 1. Two-year minimums warranty on workmanship and material shall be provided at the conclusion of construction. 2. Product warranty (See warranty per manufacturer's specifications). M. COURT RESURFACING SYSTEMS 1. Install NOVA Sports Color Coating System to Tennis Courts. This shall include all prep work, 1 coat of Acrylic Resurfacer, 2 coats of color followed by tennis game lines. 2. Contractor shall furnish all materials, labor, tools, and equipment necessary for the installation of the NOVA Sports Color Coating system to the tennis court. 3. Court(s) will be laid out for game lines according to the USTA. 4. Codes and standards will follow the current guidelines set forth by the USTA and the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) tennis court construction manual will be the reference source for all guidelines for construction. N. COLOR COATING APPLICATION 1. The acrylic color coating shall be the NOVA Sports 100% acrylic color coating system specifically designed for installing on concrete and asphalt substrates. 2. The color coating material will have silica sand added to it for the desired speed of play. 3. Speed of play shall be medium. O. SYSTEM COMPONETS 1. Roundup or equal shall be used to control vegetation along edges and in cracks as needed. 2. NOVA Sports 100% latex Crack Flex shall be used on the smaller surface cracks as determined by the lead technician. 3. NOVA Sports 100% acrylic latex patch binder shall be used to fill bird baths and other imperfections. It will be used for irregularities that need to be filled or evened out and smoothed over. This product also shall be used to fill very large thermo and structural cracks. 4. ARMOR CRACK REPAIR SYSTEM shall be used for more significant cracking as determined by the Contractor in consultation with the Owner's representative. 5. The above crack sealers shall be used as determined by the Contractor's lead technician. All or just one may be used per job surface conditions, weather and temperatures. 6. NOVA Sports concrete primer shall be used to prime bare concrete both old and new prior to applying any color coating. 7. The acrylic resurfacer is used to prime, level and create a uniform surface to apply the color coating to. 8. NOVA Sports color coating is a 100% acrylic concentrate designed specifically for color coating sport courts both indoor and outdoor. The concentrate shall be diluted with potable water and sand added for texture and desired speed of play. 9. Line sharp shall be used to seal the tape down prior to applying line paint. 10. Line paint shall be 100% latex heavy-duty paint specifically designed for striping game lines on a colored surface. P. VEGETATION 1. Vegetation shall be trimmed if needed on all edges to apply the color coat surfacing. Q. CLEANING 1. Surface area to be coated shall be blown off using high-pressure wind machines. 2. Any areas that need additional attention shall be wire brushed as needed. 3. Surface shall be power washed to give a 100% mechanical bond for the new coatings. R. CRACK SEALING 1. Cracks shall be cleaned as needed using high-pressure air and water. 2. Major cracks shall be filled with a combination of products as determined by the Contractor's field technician and with approval of the Owner's representative. 3. OPTIONAL - ARMOR CRACK REPAIR SYSTEM. S. REPAIR OF LOW SPOTS 1. An acrylic patch binder, "patching primer" shall be used to prime low areas. 2. All areas needing patched shall have an acrylic patch binder mix applied. 3. The patched areas shall be sanded prior to color coating. T. ACRYLIC RESURFACER 1. One (1) coat of NOVA Sports 100% acrylic fill shall be applied over the entire surface. 2. Silica sand shall be added to the coat at a 60-80 mesh. U. COLOR COATING 1. Two (2) coats of NOVA SPORTS fortified, 100% acrylic color coating shall be applied. 2. The color coat shall be applied perpendicular to the primer coat. 3. A fortified mixture shall be used for the common area to withstand the water vapor and high traffic wear. 4. Product used shall be void of asphalt emulsions and asbestos. V. JOB SITE CLEAN-UP 1. The court area shall be left "play" ready. 2. All job-related debris shall be cleaned up and disposed of properly. 3. All unused material shall be removed from the job site and recycled.
