The Project will consist of the following: Improvements at the westbound SR 237/Calaveras Boulevard on-ramp would include: Widening the on-ramp to accommodate a new HOV preferential lane. Currently the on-ramp has two general purpose lanes with one car entry per green at the ramp metering light. The Project would widen the on-ramp to accommodate two general purpose lanes and one HOV lane. The widening begins at the theoretical marked gore of the Calaveras Boulevard on-ramp and accommodates the HOV preferential lane along the right shoulder. Removing existing ramp metering equipment, including the cabinet, 1-B poles, and nearby pull boxes that conflict with new lane geometry. The in-ground loops will be re-cut to accommodate the new lane geometry. Existing conduit systems near the ramp metering will be protected in place where possible, new conduits and cables will be installed for areas which conflict with new lane geometry. Installing new ramp metering equipment, including a ramp metering post that would be protected by a guard rail. Relocating the maintenance vehicle pullout (MVP) area from the right to the left shoulder of the on-ramp. The new ramp metering service cabinet will be placed next to the MVP for easier access during maintenance of ramp metering equipment. Relocating existing streetlights on the right shoulder by approximately 15 feet downstream to accommodate the ramp widening. Improvements at the westbound Calaveras Boulevard/McCarthy Boulevard intersection and westbound SR 237/McCarthy Boulevard on-ramp would also include: Extending the existing HOV preferential lane to the signal limit and associated receiving lane on Calaveras Boulevard. Restriping of the right most left-turn lane on Calaveras Boulevard approaching McCarthy Boulevard from a left turn only lane to a through HOV only lane. The existing lane and shoulder widths will be maintained. Installing two (2) new two-post roadside signs to guide HOV traffic. Replacing the existing sign on the signal post with a sign to indicate a single left turn lane. The Project will require: A California contractor's license, classification Class A (General Engineering) certification to bid on this Project. All of Contractor's subcontractors must also be properly licensed to perform the work for which they are responsible. The estimated cost of construction for the Project is in the range of $1.5 million to $2.0 million. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The Calaveras Boulevard Near- Term Improvements Project (Project) is proposed along westbound Calaveras Boulevard between Interstate 880 and Coyote Creek in the City of Milpitas (City). The purpose of the Project is to encourage and improve high occupancy vehicle (HOV) use within the project area. The Project would add an HOV preferential lane at the westbound SR 237/ Calaveras Boulevard on-ramp and extend the westbound SR 237/McCarthy Boulevard HOV preferential lane to the McCarthy Boulevard/Calaveras Boulevard intersection. The project will require a California contractor's license, Class (General Engineering) to bid on this project.
