As of June 3, 2024, an architect has been selected and this project is in the early design phase. It is anticipated bidding will commence in February 2025, with construction starting April 2026. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: Miami University is soliciting qualification for professional engineering services. Miami University would like to replace their glycol system in Goggin Ice Arena which is utilized to produce and maintain ice in both Pad A and Pad B within the facility. The components in this system are nearing the end of their expected life, and this system also utilizes a refrigerant which is being phased out of production (R-22). This project is intended to replace the old glycol system in the building with a new system utilizing plate and frame heat exchangers - one dedicated to Pad A and the other dedicated to Pad B, with the ability to serve both of the ice pads from either of the heat exchangers, providing the system with another level of redundancy, and the option to operate the two ice pads at different temperatures. The cooling towers which support this system are at the end of life, as are the PCU controllers, and both of these components should be replaced. The compressors in the system are due for maintenance, and should be evaluated for rebuild or replacement. In addition to the replacement of the glycol system we would like to increase the size of the electric boiler that is currently being used to preheat the water used by our Zamboni, as the current equipment is not able to produce water to the desired temperature (140 F min). This facility has minimal scheduled downtime, so careful coordination of the construction scope and early procurement of equipment will be necessary to ensure this construction work is able to be completed without risking the facility's schedule.
