Saving Project...

Renovation of an educational facility in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

15304 - 15097398-002 Chapman Hall AirFlow Reduction UNC Chapman Hall 205 S Columbia St. Chapel Hill, NC 27599 Chapman Hall is part of the UNC Chapel Hill Science Complex Phillips Addition built in 2006. Penthouse air handlers AHU-1 and AHU-2 currently condition the science laboratories and offices with more air than necessary to address space load or Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards. In an effort to optimize energy performance of existing air handlers, all terminal boxes will be recommissioned to implement reduced flow requirements, as determined by the highest of laboratory safety ventilation (6 ACH), fume hood capture velocity, space heating/cooling load requirement, or manufacturer recommended box minimum. AHU-1 and AHU-2 control logic is existing to remain, however, AHU control loops will be re-tuned to verify system performance operating at reduced airflow. Scope includes modifications to air handlers, exhaust fans, and return fans associated with meeting the lower terminal box airflow setpoints, as well as all additional sensors and programming required to accomplish lower airflows described in the plans and sequence. This project also includes upgrading legacy Siemens control panels to the modern Siemens PXC series BACnet field controller, preparing the BAS infrastructure for the modern Siemens Desigo CC BMS software, and migrating the facility to the Desigo CC BMS environment. In addition, ventilation to existing lecture hall auditoriums 201 and 211 is currently provided by constant volume air handler AHU-3 with duct mounted reheat coils. As part of the energy reduction effort, AHU-3 will be converted to variable volume and (2) VAV boxes added to modulate airflow to each lecture hall based on space heating/cooling load requirement, CO2 level, space humidity, and occupancy schedule. This demand-controlled ventilation will require AHU-3 fan motor replacement, installation of a variable speed drive, space CO2 sensors, and updated AHU control logic. Alternate M-1: Provide new UV-C lights on the downstream side of the cooling coils for AHU-1 in the penthouse mechanical room. Lamp type shall not be proprietary. Provide power for UV-C lights, typed panel schedule update, door switch and controls as noted in 23 7313. Alternate M-2: Provide new UV-C lights on the downstream side of the cooling coils for AHU-2 in the penthouse mechanical room. Lamp type shall not be proprietary. Provide power for UV-C lights, typed panel schedule update, door switch and controls as noted in 23 7313. Alternate M-3: Provide new UV-C lights on the downstream side of the cooling coils for AHU-3 in mechanical room 114. Lamp type shall not be proprietary. Provide power for UV-C lights, typed panel schedule update, door switch and controls as noted in 23 7313.
