The City of Del Rio landfill currently has approximately 80,000 cubic yards of brush that needs to be ground. Once the brush had been mulched, Grinding the existing brush at landfill would benefit the City since it would free up space, which can then be used for new incoming brush. Ground up mulch can be used for road base material during inclement weather days and erosion control on the hillsides of the closed landfill cells. The mulched material is also offered to the residents of Del Rio free of charge and used by some of the City divisions and also some of the City's parks. If we continue to not grind the mulch at landfill, we run the risk of losing space at the landfill at a much quicker rate than expected. The brush also creates a hazard since the dry brush can quickly catch fire. Mulching of the collected brush has not been done in a while and has grown to the current size. Staff would like to obtain this service in order to avoid the hazard dry brush brings to the landfill. Once bids have been received and reviewed, the City may opt to award a contract for the brush mulching of 80,000 cubic yards. Selected vendor will need to coordinate service with the Landfill Coordinator. Once a notice to proceed has been issued, the selected vendor will have no more than 60 days to complete the service. Bids cannot be altered or amended after submission deadline. Any interlineation, alteration, or erasure made before opening by the City must be initialed by the signer of the bid, guaranteeing authenticity.
