As of August 30, 2023, an award has been made. The City is seeking proposals from qualified consulting firms to provide services to develop a Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The City has a strong commitment to provide fair and just access to high-quality parks, green space, recreation facilities and programs for all members of the community and this master plan will help us achieve our commitment. Specifically, the consultant will collect and analyze data to develop a clear set of goals, policies and standards for the community park system, green space, trails, recreation facilities and program development for the next 5 years. The consultant will work closely with City staff, Mayor, City Council, and Citizen Advisory Board in preparing the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The consultant will create a product for distribution including a comprehensive inventory, analysis of needs, and implementation strategy to the public, citizen advisory board, recreation department and elected officials. The City reserves the right to award the contract on the basis it deems to be in the Citys best interest. The City Recreation Department has 4 athletic complexes, 3 community parks, 6 nature areas, and 25 neighborhood and other city parks. Parks and athletic fields combine to make up over 400 acres of the city. 70% of the population live within a 10-minute walk of a park. The department also hosts and manages over 50 special events each year. The department employs 6 full-time recreation staff, 7 part time recreation staff, 13 full time grounds/maintenance staff, and 18 part time, seasonal staff. The department budget is approximately $2,000,000 per year. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
