Reference Number 0000319893 Source ID PU.AG.USA.1243.C12283951 Piggyback Contract No Colorado Springs Utilities ("Utilities") is requesting proposals/bids from qualified Respondents/Bidders with demonstrated experience in servicing and maintaining power plant, induced draft cooling towers. The Unit 1 and Unit 2 Birdsall Power Plant Cooling Towers are of wood construction with a concrete cold water basin foundation. They are J.F. Pritchard & Co. induced draft cooling towers that flow 16,500 GPM of water each and have 6 cells each. The cooling towers are 72' 6" long x 44' 3.5" wide x 30' high. Each cooling tower is identical to the other. In recent years, the cooling towers have begun to have major vibration issues on certain cells. Unit 1 cells A, C, D, and E cannot run at full speed or cannot run at all, and Unit 2 cells A, C, and F cannot run at full speed or cannot run at all due to high vibration. Significant structural repairs have been made to the cooling towers over the past few years. Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials, tools, lifting and rigging, and supervision to replace Unit 1 cells A, C, D, and E and Unit 2 cells A, C, and F gearboxes and H frame gearbox/cell blade metal supports with appropriately sized torque tube assemblies and add additional, structural braces as necessary. Contractor shall provide a crane and crane operator as well as a spotter as needed for performing the Work. New torque tube support assemblies shall have two drive arrestors and shall avoid existing conduit. Contractor shall utilize existing motors and shafts where possible and shall be responsible for the reinstallation of all equipment following the replacement of the gearboxes and H frame gearbox/cell blade metal supports. Contractor shall verify that existing motors and shafts can be used prior to the completion of Work. Contractor shall be responsible for verifying proper alignment of the motors and shafts. Contractor shall supply oil for new gearboxes and fill gearboxes with OEM specified oil. Contractor shall repair fan cell shrouds as needed with general purpose fiber reinforced plastic (FRP). Contractor shall ensure fan blade pitch and tip clearances are adequate according to the Cooling Tower Institute (CTI) standards. Contractor shall witness acceptance testing of repaired/modified fan cells on Units 1 and 2 and address any repair concerns as needed.
