This project is included in the City of Sioux City fiscal year 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan. As of May 22, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established; however funding is allotted to fiscal year 2027. A detailed scope has not been released. The purpose of this project is to construct a Fire Station 2 at the southern end of the city, near the airport, on city owned property with fast access to industry in Bridgeport, Southbridge, and major roadways including Interstate 29 and Highway 75. Response times to the southern ends of Sioux City for fire, rescue, and EMS do not meet standards. This area includes Southbridge, portions of South Bridgeport, airport properties, portions of Highway 75, and Interstate 29. Current agreements are not seen as a long term or permanent solution as the area continues to develop and protection/response warrants increased expectations for timely emergency services.
