The National Pan-Hellenic Council Plaza (NPHC) is a courtyard space dedicated to the Divine Nine - nine (9) African-American Sororities and Fraternities that compose the council. The NPHC was founded on May 10, 1930, at Howard University in Washington D.C. The chartering organizations were: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. joined the council, followed by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in 1937. Then, in 1997, Iota Theta Fraternity, Inc., joined the NPHC as its ninth (9th) affiliate member. This plaza embodies the Mission, Values, and Traditions of the Divine Nine and will create awareness of the Council. The plaza will include nine (9) pillars dedicated to the individual Sororities and Fraternities, plaque signage, a new concrete circular open space, tiered concrete retaining walls/informal lawn seating, new lighting, electrical infrastructure for events, new trees, plantings, landscaping, and irrigation. Bid Security in the amount of ten percent (10%) of the Lump Sum Base Bid, excluding alternates, shall accompany each Bid.
