The Dorothy Hart Community Center, located at 408 Canal Street, is the home of the Parks, Recreation, and Events department of the City of Fredericksburg. Built as the USO Recreation Center during World War II, the building requires improvements to its auditorium and entrance way: Auditorium Dehumidification System: During various events, humidity levels in the auditorium increase. The excessive amount of humidity creates issues for maintaining an acceptable environment within the auditorium and affects the room's hardwood floor. Installation of a dehumidification system will assist in maintaining an acceptable moisture level in this area. Auditorium Floor: The hardwood floor in the DHCC auditorium is beginning to show signs of its age due to normal wear. Funding is requested in FY 2027 for its replacement. ADA access ramp and stair replacement: This project will involve the replacement of the main entrance ADA access ramp and stairs for compliance requirements in FY 2026. Fiscal year 2024-2028 *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
