DiPiazza, Bidding and Contract Officer The project goals are to replace the missing foundation for Columbia Building Pod A and repair the subgrade void detected in the Skylab building. The design team theorizes a sinkhole formed underneath the Columbia foundation system; the approximate extent and location is provided on the Drawings. The basis-of-design for repair is compaction grouting (refer to specification Section 31 32 23). The existing structure is mostly intact and therefore geometric constraints of its condition must be considered. Demolition will be limited to non-structural elements and permission for additional elements not shown on the Drawings will be heavily restricted. Any plumbing fixtures that need to be replaced due to this work (doors, etc.) will be owner furnished. For the Skylab void, replacement of the missing subgrade and repair of existing slab-ongrade elements is required.
