NBMCA is seeking consulting services to prepare a Capacity Study of the Parks Creek Back Flood Control Structure (Control Structure). The Control Structure is an important part of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authoritys natural hazard and flood management program. It is located near the mouth of Parks Creek on Lake Nipissing near Lakeshore Drive in the City of North Bay. The Control Structure prevents high water levels in Lake Nipissing from backing up Parks Creek and impacting upon approximately 500 properties from lowland flooding, basement flooding and overcharging the municipal storm sewer system. Stop logs can be placed in the three bays of the dam structure and pumps can be used to move the water in Parks Creek from the upstream side of the dam to the downstream side. The consultant will review the hydrology of Parks Creek and the operational capacity of the existing structure and equipment in relation to various lake level and creek flow scenarios. As well, the consultant will provide recommendations about the efficient operation of the Control Structure and potential upgrades that could be made to increase the volume of water that can be handled by the Control Structure.
