Mineral County, with funding from the U.S. EPA will be cleaning-up and remediating the former Babbitt Military Housing Site located to the north of the town of Hawthorne The site was formerly military housing which was removed. The 324-acre site was transferred to Mineral County in 1998 from the U.S. Army. Investigations of the site determined that there remains older building foundations and piping with asbestos-containing material that need to be removed and properly disposed of. The QEC will identify the types of services the County needs to successfully complete the site clean-up including: o Assisting with a community "kick-off" meeting to explain the project and schedule of activities to the citizens of Hawthorne (Lead County with QEC) o Confirming the assumptions of the Clean-up Plan (QEC, NDEP and EPA) o Coordinating with EPA and Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP) as needed to ensure the site is part of the State's Compliance Clean-up Program. (County and QEC) o Translating the Clean-up Plan into a clear scope of work to be incorporated into the Clean-up Bid and Contract documents. (QEC) o Submitting and obtaining approval of a Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) The work to be performed under this Contract shall be commenced by the successful firm(s) after all executed Contract documents have been submitted for each unique scope of work, and after being notified to proceed by MINERAL COUNTY.
